Keynote Title: “Unbreakable: Cultivating Resilience to Conquer Life’s Challenges”
Standing at the Front of the Room Isn’t Always Easy
On April 27, Julissa Soto stood before a room of public servants at the Weld County Employee Enrichment Event, invited to speak on one of the most powerful and personal topics of her life: resilience.
But this wasn’t a comfortable crowd seeking cliché motivation. It was a room full of dedicated county employees—many navigating the real weight of change fatigue, bureaucratic strain, and the emotional toll of serving a diverse, often under-resourced public. Julissa didn’t just deliver a keynote — she entered into a space of tension, vulnerability, and transformation.
“You expect to share hard-won lessons and words that inspire. What you may not expect is to face competing views on what inspiration should even look like. And yet—that’s where growth happens.”
From Challenge to Dialogue
Julissa’s keynote, “Unbreakable,” challenged listeners to not only think differently about resilience—but to feel differently about it. She shared personal stories of adversity, injustice, and healing, weaving in lessons learned from a lifetime of navigating complex systems and standing in the gap for others.

The responses were as diverse as the room:
Some were deeply moved.
Some felt challenged or even uncomfortable.
A few were uncertain how to process what they heard.
And that was the point.
“Resilience isn’t built in echo chambers. It’s built in rooms where people bring their full selves—their hope and their hesitation.”
A Record-Breaking Response
One of the most powerful indicators of impact came after the applause:
The post-event survey generated more engagement than any previous enrichment event in Weld County history.
Staff reflected on:
The power of persistence
The courage to innovate
The importance of equity in public service
The need to keep showing up, especially for marginalized communities
Many admitted feeling challenged—and some shared their discomfort openly. But nearly all acknowledged that this keynote sparked a conversation they didn’t know they needed.
A Call to Keep Showing Up
Julissa expressed deep gratitude for Weld County’s willingness to hold space for difficult truths and honest dialogue. As she reminded the room:
“This work is hard. But we don’t grow by avoiding the hard. We grow by leaning into it—together.”
The Takeaway
This wasn’t a speech designed to uplift without accountability. It was an invitation to lead with courage, serve with purpose, and embrace resilience not just as a buzzword, but as a daily practice—especially when the work gets heavy.
To Weld County staff: thank you for your honesty, your heart, and your willingness to listen—even when it was uncomfortable. That is what leadership looks like.
And to everyone reading:
Let’s keep showing up. Even when it’s hard. Especially when it’s hard.
