Appointed By: Anne-Marie Braga, Executive Director, Denver Human Services
Council: IDDEAS Advisory Council (IAC)

We are proud to announce that Julissa Soto has been appointed to serve on the IDDEAS Advisory Council (IAC), a vital initiative under Denver Human Services (DHS), starting June 1, 2025. The appointment was made by Anne-Marie Braga, Executive Director of DHS, in recognition of Julissaโ€™s decades-long advocacy for equity, health access, and inclusion for underserved communities across Colorado.

The IDDEAS Advisory Council (Individuals with Developmental Disabilities Equity and Access Solutions) plays a pivotal role in guiding DHSโ€™s vision of a connected, supported, safe, and well community for all Denver residents.

What the Council Does

As part of the IAC, Julissa joins a dedicated group of individualsโ€”many with lived experienceโ€”who work to:

  • Prioritize funding for services that support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD)

  • Advise on programs and resources to ensure they reflect the true needs of the community

  • Champion access, equity, and inclusion across all services and systems

  • Lift the voices of marginalized groups, particularly those often left out of traditional decision-making processes

Representing the Spanish-Speaking Community

Julissaโ€™s appointment brings an essential perspective to the table: that of Coloradoโ€™s Spanish-speaking and immigrant communities, who often face systemic and cultural barriers when trying to advocate for their loved ones with disabilities.

โ€œToo often, families in the Spanish-speaking community are afraid to raise their voicesโ€”or donโ€™t know where to turn. Iโ€™m proud to help be that voiceโ€”to represent, empower, and elevate a community that deserves to be seen and supported.โ€

Julissaโ€™s work on the council will focus on ensuring that all programs, funding decisions, and community engagements are inclusive, linguistically accessible, and rooted in cultural humility.

Gratitude & Purpose

Julissa extends heartfelt thanks to Denver Human Services and Executive Director Anne-Marie Braga for entrusting her with this opportunity.

โ€œThis isnโ€™t just a seat at the tableโ€”itโ€™s a responsibility. I will use it to speak up, show up, and make sure every voice counts.โ€
