๐ Exciting Opportunity to Inspire the Next Generation of Pharmacists! ๐
We are thrilled to launch a transformative program aimed at educating and empowering high school students, particularly those from BIPOC and underserved communities, about the dynamic field of pharmacy. This initiative will increase awareness of diverse career opportunities in pharmacy and highlight the critical role of pharmacists in healthcare and community wellness.
Program Goals
This program is designed to:

Inspire high school students to explore pharmacy careers

Enhance diversity in the profession and create a more inclusive healthcare workforce

Provide mentorship and hands-on learning experiences to help students understand how pharmacists impact patient care and the broader healthcare team
Learning Objectives
Students will:

๐ Learn about pharmacists' integral position within healthcare teams
๐ Develop effective communication skills as future healthcare providers
๐ Gain insights into pharmacy school life and the path to a PharmD degree
๐ Explore pharmacology, clinical practices, and medication safety
๐ Discover diverse career opportunities within pharmacy
๐ Learn about cultural validation techniques in pharmacy

The Role of CU Pharmacy Students
Pharmacy students will serve as mentors to high school students, leading four interactive sessions throughout the academic year. These sessions will help raise awareness, promote career pathways, and inspire students to pursue pharmacy education.
Responsibilities of CU Pharmacy Student Mentors
๐น Work in pairs to support a high school class for the entire academic year
๐น Coordinate classroom visits in the fall and spring, in collaboration with teachers
๐น Customize presentations based on individual expertise and interests
๐น Provide constructive feedback to improve the program
๐น Represent the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences and Health Equity Consulting with professionalism
๐น Attend debrief meetings with program leaders to discuss support needs and enhancements
